The talk will be held in English. A small lunch will be provided.

On the third and final event this summer we welcome Sebastian van Berkel / MUST urbanism Amsterdam.

In the Netherlands, thinking in scenarios is a widespread tool in planning practice. Extensive demographic, economic and climatic dynamics are increasingly changing the spatial structure of the Dutch cities. How do internal and external influences affect urban areas? What is the design scope for us architects? In order to deal with these unforeseeable dynamics, scenario-based design is an important tool for determining possible „future spaces“ and developing for these futures designs and visions.

Maps unlock peoples imagination: dreaming about distant worlds or about possible futures. A map is an instrument to tell a story about small objects, cities, regions or the entire world. Making a map is a form of art and cartography is the art of omitting. A map creates a new reality or truth and therefore it is a powerful tool in the design proces. During the lunch talk we will explore different types of maps, the techniques and how they can be used. Please bring a print of a map you simply find beautiful.

Learning from… is made possible with support by the Department of Architecture at the TU Braunschweig (Studienqualitätsmittel).
